In Their Own Words

These resources include documents and histories from the beginning of the Church of God movement.

Brief History of the Church that is Now Recognized as the Church of God
This is the first known history of the Church of God. It was written by the first General Overseer, A.J. Tomlinson, and included in his book The Last Great Conflict (Cleveland, Tenn.: Press of W.E. Rodgers, 1913), 184-98.

Selected Writings of R. G. Spurling
R.G. Spurling and his father Richard Spurling founded the Christian Union on August 19, 1886. R.G. Spurling became the first pastor of this fledgling congregation, which is considered to be the first Church of God. James M. Beaty, Ph.D, compiled these writings.
