The 73rd International General Assembly of the Church of God will be held in Orlando, Florida July 27-30, 2010. The Assembly will begin with a General Council session at 8:30 a.m. on July 27 and conclude with a Commissioning Service on Friday night, July 30.
Orlando is one of the most popular locations in the world. With the number of family attractions, through the years Orlando has developed into a world-class convention city as well, with a compact convention center and plentiful nearby hotels. This is the first time the Church of God has held an Assembly in Orlando, but other similar church organizations have held their conventions in the same location with much success.
The Assembly has been shortened from Monday through Saturday to Tuesday through Friday. The shortened schedule allows for families, particularly pastors, travel time to reach Orlando on the front end, and a full day to return on the back end. While there will be one less evening worship service, the General Council business sessions will not be reduced.
The Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) is a very accommodating venue for meetings such as the Assembly, with exhibit halls and meeting venues under one roof.
There are more than enough hotels within walking distance of the OCCC, eliminating the need for shuttle service.
Teen Talent was not a part of early Assembly events and it has now become large enough and vital enough to stand on its own. Because of the late summer scheduling of the Assembly, many TT participants have been unable to attend because of school schedules beginning earlier. Teen Talent will be held earlier in the summer and on the Lee University campus in 2011. More information will be available in the coming months.
The easiest method for registration is on-line by visiting www.churchofgod.org. However, hard copies of registration forms can be obtained in the December 2009 and February 2010 issues of the Evangel, as well as via download on the Church of God web site. They can also be requested by calling 1-800-323-7264.
You may use the printable registration to register and pay the registration fee with a check or money order and mail it to the address indicated. The printable registration link is located under the Registration and Housing link.
The agenda for the General Council is usually released in the spring prior to the Assembly following the April meeting of the International Executive Council. It is mailed to all ordained bishops first and Faith News will release an on-line version as soon as authorized.
There are several schedules that will be released at different times leading up to Assembly, including special events and reunion gatherings. Faith News will release schedules and post them on this site as they are finalized by departments and ministries.
Ministerial credentials will be mailed 6 weeks prior to the date of the Assembly to all credentialed ministers who are already registered for the General Assembly.
For questions regarding exhibit space at the Assembly, please e-mail the chairman of the exhibits, Tom Madden, at tmadden@churchofgod.org or 423-478-7225. The fax number is 423-478-7064. Was your question answered? Ask a question here. |
